Carrington McAllistair Thompson, 60 years old of Maplewood, New Jersey, passed away on February 19, 2025. Carrington was born in Nassau, Bahamas and raised in Cockburn Town, San Salvador, Bahamas. Mac, as he was known to his family, moved to Brooklyn as a teenager and lived there until he moved to Maplewood with his family in 2004.
Carrington moved to the United States to pursue his love of music. After working a variety of jobs including construction and IT, Carrington became a longshoreman at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He retired from the Lehigh Cement company in 2019. Carrington decided to return to work in 2021 at Home Depot in Vauxhall, New Jersey. He was a well respected team member who was often called “Pops” by his younger coworkers. No matter where he worked throughout his life, he wrote songs, played guitar, and encouraged his children and grandchildren, nieces and nephews to develop their musical talents.
Carrington was predeceased by his father Kenric Thompson, two older brothers, Denver Doughlin and Erick Thompson and his niece who he loved dearly, Rosheda Patrick. He leaves to mourn his passing his mother, Adrianna Thompson and younger brother Sheldon Thompson. He will be sorely missed by his wife of 39 years, Melissa Goodman Thompson and his beloved daughters, Carris and Chelsea Thompson. The lights of his life were his five grandchildren. Arielle, Joaquin , Elias, Mateo, and Eden. They adored their “Papo” and he spoiled them every day of their lives. Our dogs, Hunter and Rhys-Ling, miss him already. Carrington also had many relatives and friends upon whose lives he had a long lasting and positive effect. He will be fondly remembered by all.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 3 at 11 AM at Preston Funeral Home 153 South. Orange Ave., South Orange, NJ Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Linden, New Jersey.
