Obituary of Kathleen "Cora" Zahedi

Kathleen Cora Corkery was born on the 31st of August 1934 in County Cork, Ireland. 

Cora was raised by her Mother, Anastasia Nugent Rossiter, in the town of Dungarvan, Ireland alongside her younger brothers Peter and Vincent.  She attended Presentation Convent School in Dungarvan, a charming fishing village on the mid-south coast of Ireland. 

Cora emigrated to the United States by way of England, aboard a long journeyed ship across the Atlantic in the early 1950s.  She was hosted by her beloved Aunt May and Uncle John Mason in Teaneck, NJ.  She attended the Parisian School of Beauty, earned her Cosmetology License and worked in the field part time throughout the years.  She hosted her brother Peter who later emigrated to the US. 

Cora married Sohrab “Steve” Zahedi on August 4, 1962.  They lived and raised their family in Teaneck, NJ.  They were married for 50 years until Steve’s death in 2013.  They had two children, Tyrone Steven Zahedi and Soraya Mary Zahedi.

Cora was a devoted Roman Catholic who attended Mass regularly at St Anastasia Parish.  She also loved the Holidays and always made great fun and feast for Christmas, Easter and St Patrick’s Day.  She made wonderful birthdays, summer outings and was always up for a traditional Sunday drive.  She enjoyed music and dancing and was an adept gardener and flower arranger and a terrific cook!

Cora’s long, healthy life was filled with many devoted friends and extended family. 

She was exuberant and very friendly always lending a helping hand to those in need.  She volunteered during the grammar school years, was a Boy Scout den mother and a contributing member of the Tenants association.   

Cora returned to Ireland frequently throughout her life always referring to it as “home” and she brought friends and family with her up to and including her granddaughters, Brigitte & Jacqueline.

Cora is predeceased by her parents Anastasia Rossiter and John Corkery, dear brother Vincent, loving husband Steve and devoted son Tyrone. She leaves behind a loving family of her brother Peter Rossiter, daughter Soraya and son-in-law Stephen Quirk, granddaughters Brigitte and Jacqueline Quirk, Brigitte’s husband Ryan and her darling great grandson Calvin. 

The family will be receiving friends on Friday, March 14^th from 3:00 – 5:30 PM followed by a prayer service at 5:30 PM. A graveside service will be held on Sat, March 15^th at 11:00 AM at Laurel Grove Cemetery, 295 Totowa Road, Totowa, NJ
