John L. Zarnick, 88, of New Providence, NJ, passed away on March 19, 2025, in Wayne, NJ. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he touched countless lives with his kindness and generosity. A longtime resident of New Providence, he was a proud graduate of the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

John and his wife, Patricia, shared an extraordinary bond, knowing each other for 73 years and building a marriage that lasted 67 years. Their relationship was a testament to enduring love, family, and unwavering commitment.

With a passion for engineering, John dedicated his career to innovative work in chemical engineering, specializing in testing and certification for automobile and industrial batteries. His expertise in this niche field set him apart. As a founding partner of Cross and Black Inc., with operations in both Michigan and New Providence, his dedication and contributions left a lasting impact.

Above all, John was a devoted father who placed his family at the center of his life. He was deeply loving and committed to his children, always going above and beyond for them. Wanting to be involved in his son’s life, he became a Little League coach, guiding teams in both soccer and baseball. He ensured every player had equal playing time, believing that everyone, regardless of skill, had something valuable to contribute. His teams reached championship games, creating cherished memories for his son and players alike. At home, he was always active, constantly finding projects to tackle and things to fix.

As a grandfather, John brought endless joy to his grandchildren, Jessica and Mark. He was a playful companion in their childhood, making them laugh with his quick wit and humor. His presence in their lives helped shape them, leaving behind memories they will treasure forever.

John’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. A dedicated member of the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, he lived by his strong belief that earthly life was part of a greater divine plan. He deeply cared for his extended family, always ensuring their well-being and stepping in to help whenever needed.

He is predeceased by his beloved son, Kevin. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his devoted son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Meg; his cherished grandchildren, Jessica and Mark; his older brother, Joseph, and sister-in-law, Joan; his daughter, Bernadette Wanczyk; and many nieces and nephews. His legacy of love, faith, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, and stjude.org in John’s name.
