Patricia Barrows, 75
Beloved Sister, Aunt, and Educator

Patricia Barrows, 75, passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2025. Born in Newark, NJ, Patricia was a lifelong resident of East Orange. She dedicated her life to education, community, and family.

Patricia earned her bachelor's degree in education from Montclair State College and went on to complete master's degrees in Home Economics at both Kean University and Jersey City State College. She taught Home Economics at Weequahic High School for the Newark Board of Education from 1975 until her retirement in 2005, shaping the lives of countless students with warmth, knowledge, and dedication.

Patricia loved the vibrant energy of Atlantic City, the intellectual challenge of Jeopardy and the excitement of cheering for the Mets.

She is survived by her loving sisters, Mary Ellen Barrows and Joyce M. Ruggiero (Leonard), as well as ten cherished nieces and nephews, and eight great-nieces and nephews. Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Romaine Barrows, and her brother, Robert K. Barrows.

Above all, Patricia treasured the deep friendships she shared with Patti Palma, Mary Ellen Hardy and Louise Perugino, who stood by her side through life’s many chapters.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Avenue, South Orange, on Saturday May 24, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM, with a prayer service to follow at 4:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia's memory may be made to the family or to the AWSOM Animal Shelter, 3129 Godfrey Ridge Dr, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
