Obituary of A. John Scarpone
ANTHONY JOHN SCARPONE (known as John to all) passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at Advent Health Hospital, Parker, Colorado. He was 93 years old.
Born in Hillside, NJ, to Anthony and Marion (née Kroczak) Scarpone, John spent his childhood years in Springfield, NJ. He lived in New Jersey most of his life until settling in Centennial, Colorado 33 years ago.
John was a Registered Pharmacist in NJ and NY having received his Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers’s University School of Pharmacy in 1953. John spent two years in the Army just after the Korean War, followed by 6 years in the Army Reserves. While working in retail pharmacy management John earned his Master’s in Pharmacy from Rutgers in 1964, and in 1969 he earned his Ph.D. In 1969 John began his career in pharmaceutical research and development with Lederle Labs and then joined E.R. Squibb and Bristol Meyers Squibb (Director of R&D). In 1992, John and his wife moved to Colorado where he became Senior Director and Vice-President of R&D for Pharmaceutical Basics. John retired in 1996.
John was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a devoted baseball fan.
John is predeceased by his wife, Janice (née Gordon) Scarpone.
Surviving are his three children, John Scarpone of Gig Harbor, WA, Donna Jaske and her husband Andrew of Port Orchard, WA, and Robert Scarpone and his wife Theresa of Flanders, NJ; and his three grandchildren, Erin Jaske and her partner Scott Sandridge, Kyle Jaske and his wife Anastasiya, and Elizabeth Scarpone.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday May 10, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Flanders, NJ. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Short Hills, NJ. A repast will be held at the home of Robert Scarpone at 2:00 pm.
