We miss you so much, Gael. Your smile really did light up the room, and your sweet, funny, easygoing way always made everything feel better. You had this lovely energy that just made people feel good around you.
I still remember when Athan came home from school one day and said, “There’s a new boy from the States in my class — he’s gas!” I didn’t know then just how close you two would become, or how quickly that friendship would turn into something really special.
You had promised to visit us this year — we were all so looking forward to it. Now it’s hard to believe you’re gone. My heart breaks watching Athan lose his best friend, without even the chance to say goodbye. It’s not how things were supposed to go. I thought I’d get to watch you both grow up together, hear all your crazy stories, and laugh at your adventures.
I’ll never forget the day you two dressed exactly the same — I honestly couldn’t tell who was who. That’s how close you were. You really were like brothers.
You were taken way too soon, Gael. But we’ll carry you with us always. Thank you for the joy, the memories, and the friendship you gave so freely. We’ll never forget you.

I was about 5 years old, so excited for baby Gael to come over for some babysitting. I noticed he needed a diaper change….. took matters into my own hands and decided, why not help? Can’t be too hard? I almost had it all…. Cleaned him up with the wipes, got a clean diaper, needed some BABY POWDER…….. shook it too hard and he was COVERED with the baby powder, poor Gael looked like a powdered doughnut!!! My mom got so upset with me I was never allowed to help out AGAIN!!
