Marleine Charles, 72, of Maplewood, NJ
Marleine Charles, 72, of Maplewood, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16th, at Overlook Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Lacouture, Haiti, Marleine devoted her life to caring for others, both in her personal and professional life. After her mother’s death, she spent her life caring for her family in Haiti and raised her 10 siblings.
She worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Morris View Healthcare Center, where she was known for her compassion and dedication.
She was a devout Catholic and was an active member of many groups: Les Amies de Marie, The Rosary Altar Society and Chorale L’Echo des Anges at St. Leo’s Church and The Rosary Altar Society of Our Lady of Sorrows.
Marleine moved to Maplewood 13 years ago, where she continued to be a beloved member of her community. She was predeceased by the love of her life, Phanor Hermann, whose memory she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her devoted daughters, Norma and Mirleine Hermann, and her ten siblings: Mepricia, Rosemond, Yvrose, Germanie, Fenel, Edner, Olide, Philine, Tides (Johnny), and Vaudes Charles. Her warmth, strength, kindness, and giving spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30th, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange, NJ.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 31st at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect Street, South Orange, NJ.
Marleine will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.
