Obituary of June Cimonetti

 

June Cimonetti, 94 of South Orange, NJ passed from life on June 28, 2025.

 

She was born on May 21, 1931, the only child of Bill and Esther Motyka of Newark, NJ.  Her mom passed from life before her 1st birthday which resulted in June being raised by grandparents, Valentine and Anna Surman also of Newark. Moving into the Surman family, she immediately bonded with 5 older family members, Julia, Marion, Adele, Peter and   an adopted 1st cousin, Frank, who all embraced June as their baby sister. 

 

June grew up in the “Iron Bound” section of Newark graduating from St. Casimir’s Grammar School and East Side High School.  After graduating high school, she was employed by a local bank and remained with them until retirement. After retirement June had a second career in the administration office at Montclair State University.  Throughout her life she maintained contact with her close schoolmates.

 

In 1960 she married Frank (Tim) Cimonetti, a Civil Engineer employed by the State of NJ.  They purchased a home in South Orange and remained there throughout their lives. June and Tim traveled extensively throughout their marriage of 60 years.  Bermuda was a frequently repeat destination. June and Tim were an integral part of their extended family and were always present for celebrations and family milestones.

 

June was a cherished member of this extended family and was especially close to her half-brother and his family and her Surman family 1st cousins and their families. June was a life-long member of the Roman Catholic Church receiving its last rites prior to her passing. 

 

June was preceded in death by her husband Frank.  She is survived by her half-brother Joseph Motyka of Toms River, 3 of her 7 Surman family  1st cousins, Greg Surman of Toms River, Stacy Bearse of Louisville, KY, Ed Brady of Las Cruces, NM and many members of the Surman, Bearse, Brady, Graham, Keating, Motyka and Cimonetti families. 

A visitation will be held at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Sunday, July 6th from 2:00 – 5:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect Street, South Orange on Monday, July 7th at 10:00 AM. June will be entombed at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington with her husband Frank. 

 

‘And when our work is done, our course on Earth is run, may it be said well done, be thou at peace”.  Well done, June! Be Thou at peace.
