Jane E. Cushing, age 93, of South Orange, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Daughters of Israel in West Orange, NJ.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 16th  from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Avenue, South Orange, NJ.

Born on September 15, 1931, in Newark, NJ, Mrs. Cushing dedicated her professional life to education, serving as an elementary school teacher with the East Orange Board of Education. She was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, where she was an active member of the Rosary Society and Helping Hands ministry.

Jane loved vacations at the Jersey Shore with her extended family. She was known to host many summer barbeques for friends and family on her deck. An enthusiastic Seton Hall basketball fan, Jane would cheer loudly as she watched the games. Her sense of fashion and contagious humor will be remembered fondly by all.

Jane was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest W. Cushing; her parents, John and Elizabeth (Ellis) Durr; her stepchildren Robert Cushing and wife Diane, and Mary Theresa Berres; and dear cousins Betty and Ken Anderson.

She is survived by her stepdaughter, Evelyn Fornale and husband Thomas; stepson-in-law Joseph Berres; grandchildren Matthew Fornale and Vicky Nelson, Jennifer and Jeffrey Pellecchia, Lisa and Liberato Rizzi, and Linda and Todd Kilponen; six great-grandchildren; and many Anderson cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 16th Floor, New York, NY 10001 (alzfdn.org)
