Obituary of Michael Sargeant

Michael Sargeant, 70, of Maplewood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, July 18, 2025.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Saturday, July 26^th, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Trinity & St. Philip’s Cathedral, 589 Broad Street, Newark, NJ. A Funeral Service will follow at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place at Hollywood Cemetery in Union.

Born in Basseterre, St. Kitts, he served on the police force in the 1980s. He rose up the ranks to Detective (Badge #583) and served as a bodyguard for Dr. Kennedy Simmons, former Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis.  In his younger days, he was a talented musician who played in the St. Kitts Nevis Police Band and sang with The Thunderbolts.

Michael later made his home in Maplewood, where he lived for 34 years. He was a skilled Master Plumber who proudly ran his own business.

Michael is lovingly remembered by his wife, Lorna, of over 45 years, and his children: LeRon (Natasha), DeJean (Teresa), Kareem (Christine), Lormal, and Loumica. He is also survived by his siblings, Daulina, Leroy, Mal, and Clever, his Aunt Marjorie, as well as his nine cherished grandchildren, Natalia, Icyss, Adriana, AvaRose, Connie, Skylar, Madeleine, De'iani, and Nicholas.  Michael will always be remembered by an abundance of nieces and nephews, family, and friends who loved him dearly at home and abroad.
