Obituary of Cheryl Dianne Wood

Cheryl Dianne Wood, 77, of South Orange
January 27, 1948 – September 17, 2025

Cheryl Dianne Wood, 77, of South Orange, NJ, passed away on September 17th at Morristown Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 27th at Noon at Wyoming Presbyterian Church, 432 Wyoming Ave., Millburn, NJ.

Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Cheryl spent the last 41 years as a proud resident of South Orange. She was deeply involved in her community, generously giving her time volunteering including Junior League of the Oranges & Short Hills, where she directed the League-sponsored ladies ensemble “The Pitchpipers,” visiting nursing homes throughout the region to entertain residents with song.  The League named Cheryl “Volunteer of the Year” in 1995.  Cheryl was also very active at Wyoming Presbyterian Church in Millburn singing in the Choir, playing in the popular Handbell Choir and serving many years as a Deacon.  She was also a volunteer visitor at St. Barnabas hospital.  Her passion for helping others and her warm, welcoming spirit touched the lives of many.

Cheryl is survived by her loving husband, Stephen A. Wood; her son, Grant Wood and his wife Rachel; and her daughter, Shelby Wasicki and her husband Tim, her brother John Prutsman, and his children, Paul, Nick and Lee and Lee's wife Alex; and her sister Valerie Welch She adored her grandchildren, Kody and Conner Wood, and Emery Wasicki.

She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
