Obituary of Lillian Guzman-Reeves Battey

Mrs. Lillian Guzman-Reeves Battey, beloved wife, mother, and sister passed away on November 26, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Lillian was born in the Bronx, NY and raised in Jersey City, NJ. She then made her home in Maplewood, NJ in 1995, where she spent the rest of her life. Lillian devoted over 25 years to serving as a special education teacher at Somerset Hills School, a residential facility for students with disabilities and special needs. There, she compassionately supported and championed at-risk youth. She also spent many of her summer days at the school’s auxiliary summer camp, Camp Harmony. Lillian left a lasting impression on her students and coworkers, and her legacy at these places will be remembered.

Lillian was predeceased by many loved ones, and we find comfort knowing that she is now joyfully reunited with them in Heaven. This includes her Father, Anibal Guzman, Mother, Josefina Guzman, first husband, Alexander Scott Reeves; her sisters, Gladys Rosa and Margie Burgos; and her brothers, Jose Rosa and Anibal A. Guzman, Jr. She is survived and will be missed dearly by her loving husband, Jeremiah Battey; her cherished son, Alexander Scott Reeves II; her sister, Lourdes Parham; her brother, David Rosa; and her step-children, Jeremy Battey, Bethany McHenry, Brendan Battey, Jonathan Battey, and Evan Battey.

Above all else, Lillian found her greatest happiness in being a grandmother; her twelve grandchildren were truly the pride and joy of her life. Lillian’s warmth, resilience, and deep love for her family will be forever remembered.

Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Avenue, Maplewood NJ, on Tuesday, December 2nd, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Service will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd, at 10:00 AM at the same location. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
