Obituary of Roger James Young
Roger James Young, 74, of Maplewood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, at Morristown Medical Center, in Morristown, NJ, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, Pop, and friend, whose warmth, humor, and energy left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Roger was born in Brooklyn, NY, raised in Floral Park, NY and attended Chaminade High School in Mineola, NY. He proudly attended the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He and his wife, Amy, were married in 1985 and moved to Maplewood, NJ in 1990 to raise their family. He built a successful career in the printing industry, working with the Adams Group and Command Financial in New York City for over 50 years.
Roger truly lived life to the fullest. He had a gift for connecting with people and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had countless friends who loved him dearly. He brought fun and laughter wherever he went and was happiest surrounded by family and friends. Whether on the beach in Long Beach Island, on a pontoon boat at the lake in Wisconsin, or on the softball field, Roger found joy in simple moments; being together, telling stories, and entertaining others. Roger will be remembered for his big heart, outgoing spirit, and the way he made everyone feel welcomed and valued. His presence filled the room, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.
Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Amy (Ribich) Young; his children, Alyson De Soto (Ian) and Christopher Young (Madison); and his cherished grandchildren, Brooke and Reid De Soto. He is also survived by his siblings: Mary Ann Horne (Frederick), Christine Lucey (Daniel), Constance Crimmins (Robert), and Joan Eccleston (Lawrence), sister-in-law Barbara Young, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother, Mary Lou Young, father, George E. Young, and brother, George E. Young Jr.
