Obituary of Rose M. Mercadante

Rose M. Mercadante, age 102, of Morristown, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026.

Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Monday, June 15^th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect Street, South Orange, NJ on Tues, June 16^th at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.

Rose was born in South Orange, New Jersey. She was graduate of Columbia High School in 1941. She dedicated more than 55 years of service to Seton Hall University, where she worked as an administrative assistant from 1960 until her retirement in 2015. In 1985, Rose was the recipient of the McQuaid medal from Seton Hall University, Chemistry department, for distinguished service and commitment to students and faculty.

Rose is predeceased by her beloved husband, John L. Mercadante and her four Russo sisters.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Barbara Gervasio (Anthony.) and Joanne Farrell.

She is also survived by her cherished grandsons, Richard, John, and Ryan Farrell, two great grandchildren, Emma Rose and Christopher Mercadante Farrell, eight Gervasio great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family toward Rose’s commemorative plaque at Seton Hall University (In care of Barbara Gervasio 5 Arbor Way, Morristown, NJ 07960.)
