Obituary of Mary Ann Cappaze

Mary Ann “Dolly” Cappaze died peacefully at home on Saturday, January 23rd. She was 95 years old. The family will be receiving friends at Preston Funeral Home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Wed, Jan 27^th from 9:00 to 10:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, South Orange at 10:30 AM.  Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange.   In lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org) or St. Jude (www.stjude.org) would be appreciated. Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of South Orange, but spent her last few years enjoying the sunshine and water views from her home on the Bay in Manahawkin.

She was a graduate of Columbia High School and started her career as a bookkeeper, followed by a long career as an Administrative Assistant to the President of Universal Tool & Dye Company. A devout parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Mary Ann was a member of the OLS Rosary Society and long-time member of the church choir.

Quick-witted, coy, and comical, she enjoyed singing, the theater and most of all, spending time with her brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews. Dolly could be found attending every sporting event, recital, and “fun” events of her family, including dancing the night away on the floor at weddings.

She took pride in being very fashionable, often seen donning the latest styles: high-heeled shoes, hoop earrings, and anything with an animal print. She is pre-deceased by her sisters, Jenny Mariani and Minnie Cassie, and her brother, Frank Cappaze. She is survived by her brothers, Anthony and Joseph, her sister, Florence Handley, and more than two dozen nieces and nephews spanning three generations.
