Obituary of Leonard F. Schmieder Jr.

Leonard F. Schmieder Jr. , 83 of Maplewood passed away on March 9, 2021.

Leonard was born in East Orange and was a lifelong resident of Maplewood. He served in the US Army and then in the National Guard. Leonard was the Director of Road and Bridges for the County of Essex for many years before retiring in 1995. He also worked as a Code Enforcement Officer for the Township of Maplewood. Leonard was predeceased by his wife Kathleen Lafferty Schmieder last year. He is survived by his daughter Susan  Herter and her husband Herb, grandchildren Johnathan Herter and Barbara  Kroog, their respective spouses Michelle Herter and Fred Kroog.  Leonard and Kathleen Schmieder were blessed with two great grandchildren Freddie  Kroog and Cole Herter.
