Obituary of Mary English Howley

Mary English Howley of Maplewood, NJ passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the age of 58. Mary was born in Manhattan on September 19, 1958 to Theresa (nee McCarthy) and Timothy C. English. She was raised in Yonkers, NY and educated at Christ the King School and Maria Regina High School in Hartsdale. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and government from the State University of New York at Albany, a Doctor of Law degree from St. John’s University School of Law, and a Master of Laws in taxation from New York University School of Law. She began her legal career in the law office of Thomas J. Murphy in Newburgh, NY, and then as an associate in the firm of Wyatt, Gerber, & O’Rourke in New York City. She later worked for the Matthew Bender Corporation, and independently, as a Federal tax author and editor. In addition to her professional career, Mary was a tireless advocate for the developmentally disabled. A faithful daughter and sister, above all else Mary was a devoted mother. Predeceased by her parents, she is survived by her darling daughters Maureen A. Howley and Kathleen M. Howley, her beloved brother Timothy C. English, Jr. and his wife Maureen , and her dog Belle. Visiting hours will be at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Wed, July 19th from 5:00 - 9:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mary at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange on Thur, July 20th at 10:30 AM. Interment immediately following in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
