Obituary of Altagrace Dorcé

Altagrace Dorcé, 89, of South Orange, NJ, passed away surrounded by family in her home on Monday, December 20, 2021. 

Altagrace was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, where she grew up and raised her family before coming to the United States in 1984. After her arrival, she worked as a cook at a local restaurant in Stamford, CT. She later moved to South Orange in 1995, where she continued her life’s work of raising, nurturing, and caring for her family.

Altagrace is survived by her loving children: Vida Alexandre and friend Renel Pognon, Marie Carmel Bosquet and husband Pierre, Jouvenel Alexandre and wife Yanique, Dieufort Alexandre and wife Bernadette, Marc Andre Alexandre and wife Linda, Nixon Alexandre and wife Carline, and Rony Alexandre and wife Colette. She is cherished by her grandchildren Cassandra, Peterson, Jouvenel Jr., Darnell, Jouviane, Joshua, Craig, Nixandra, Gabrielle, David, and Matthew as well as adoptive children Meriane Dorcé, Richard Dorcé, and Phoebe Vil, stepson Yves Paul, closest cousins Saint Ana Mesidor, Velida Zamor, and Antoine Paulsaint, and brother-in-law Fresnel Rosalva.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Leo’s Church, 103 Myrtle Avenue in Irvington, NJ, on Thursday, December 30th at 10:30AM. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 255 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ. Visiting hours will be held at Preston Funeral Home, 153 S Orange Avenue, South Orange, NJ on Wednesday, December 29th from 5-8PM.
