Obituary of Leighton W. Dixon

Leighton Wesley Dixon better known as Lee was called home to rest on December 29, 2021.

Leighton is survived by his wife, Sharon Antoine-Dixon Ph.D; his daughter, Francine Baker (née Dixon); his sons and daughter-in-laws, Demetri Dixon and wife, Madeline Dixon, Omar Dixon and wife, Erica Dixon, Lamar Dixon, and Levon Dixon; his grandchildren, Ayanna Baker, Omar Dixon, Jr., Gabrielle Dixon, and Danielle Dixon.

Leighton was born in Kingston, Jamaica on April 16, 1940 to Captain Lester Colmore Dixon and his wife Mable Dixon (née Moulton).  His father was a sea captain, and his mother was a nurse.  Leighton migrated to the United States in 1955, and graduated from Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, New York. He earned an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering in the U.S. Army where he served from 1959 to 1961. He worked for 24 years at Honeywell as a Test Engineer where he retired in 2008.  He also worked at a radio station in Miami, Florida as a Disc Jockey, as well as a hired DJ for events.  He once owned a nightclub in the Bronx called Elegant Lady.

Leighton had a love of dancing, playing music, cards, and dominoes.  He had a gift of gab, and told stories for hours while making you laugh.  Leighton will be deeply missed by numerous family members and friends.

A private funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m  to 11 a.m. on January 3rd 2022 at Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home located at 2122 Millburn Avenue in Maplewood New Jersey.  Pastor Ron Burgess will officiate.  Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
