Elsie M. Ginard  Lopez, 96, of Florham Park passed away on December 30, 2021 at Brookdale Senior Living.

Elsie was born in Havana, Cuba and emigrated to the United States in May 1960 with her two sons to join her husband who had come two months earlier.  Soon after arriving in the United States, she began working at a textile factory in West New York, where her husband worked as an accountant while she attended Teachers College in the evenings. Elsie earned a Masters Degree in education and worked as a Spanish Teacher for the Merrick Board Of Education on Long Island until she retired in her late 50s.

She lived in Leonia, New Jersey for many years where she and her husband raised their two sons. She later moved to South Beach, Florida with her husband. After 10 years, she returned to New Jersey when her husband’s health began to fail, to be closer to her family. She returned to Florida for many years after her husband’s death, but returned once again to New Jersey in 2016 as her own health began declining, to live out the remainder of her years close to family.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years Edward Lopez and 3 brothers;  Oswaldo Ginard, Louis Ginard and Carlos Ginard.

Elsie is survived by her two sons Edward Lopez (Theresa) of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, and Charles A. Lopez (Cheryl Futterman) of Maplewood, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Stephanie Anderson (Stephen) of Arnold, Maryland, Edward Lopez, Jr. (Rachael) of Clarksburg, Maryland, Maximilian Lopez of Glendale, California, and Alexander Lopez of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She had five great granddaughters; Morgan Anderson, Quinn Anderson, Tessa Lopez, Brielle Lopez, and Chelsea Lopez.
