LUCILLE WILHELMINA INCE (nee Thomas), age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at her home in Irvington, New Jersey, USA.
Lucille was born in New Amsterdam, Berbice, Guyana on January 2, 1931 to Samuel and Catherine Thomas. There, she received her early education. After graduation, she was employed at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she earned her Nursing and Midwifery Certification.
Lucille immigrated to the United States of America in 1964 in pursuance of her professional nursing career. As a Registered Nurse and Midwife, Lucille worked for several decades, including more than 33 years, in the Neonatal Unit at St. Michael’s Medical Center, Newark, NJ. This field required a high degree of skill, dedication and emotional strength to nurture the most vulnerable newborns. She truly loved and enjoyed providing this specialized care.
A devoted Christian and member of the Lutheran Church, Lucille was predeceased by her husband, Caesar Brentnol Ince and her beloved brother Lloyd Thomas and sisters Victorine George and Carmen Springer. She is survived by her three children, Gary, Lloyd and Cheryl Ince. Lucille was a caring woman who served as a surrogate mother to many other children and their extended families. She was well-loved by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews - all of whom she treated as her own. Even with such a large family, Lucille always made time for everyone. She provided support and unconditional love to everyone who crossed her doorstep. Lucille’s joy for life, spirit of optimism, passion for giving and daily words of encouragement will sorely be missed as her memory remains indelible in all of our hearts.
Visitation will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 153 Glenwood Ave, East Orange on Thursday, Jan 20th from 6:00 – 9:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service at the Church on Friday, Jan 21st at 10:00 A.M. Interment at Graceland Memorial Park, Kenilworth.
