TRABOLD, Rev. Msgr. George Raftery Luke, 74 of Barnegat, NJ was unexpectedly raised to God’s glory on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022. 

 

George graduated from St. John Grade School, Orange, a proud Brother’s Boy ( Christian Brothers )from Our Lady of the Valley H.S. ‘65 and Seton hall University ‘69.  George studied for the priesthood at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington, NJ and served his Diaconate internship at St. Aloysius Parish, Jersey City.  George was then ordained a priest in Sacred Heart Cathedral on May 26, 1973 - the last man ordained by the late Archbishop Thomas A. Boland.  George’s first assignment was at St. John Parish in Bergenfield.  He then received an advanced degree in Canon Law from Catholic University, Washington DC which led to service in the Marriage Tribunal, secretary to the archbishop and Director of Development for the Archdiocese of Newark.  George served two pastorates, St. John, Bergenfield, where he had begun his priestly ministry and St. Rose of Lima, Short Hills, from where he retired from active ministry. 

 

George was predeceased by his loving parents Lillian (Raftery) and Charles, and his siblings Charles and Catherine (Kay) Tischio.  George is survived by his friend of 54 years Rev. Dennis J. Cohan and his siblings Paul (Janet), Joan Keaney (Joe) and Walter (Valerie). 

 

Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 21, 2022 at St. Rose of Lima Church, 50 Short Hills Ave., Short Hills, NJ 07078 from 1:00pm until an Evening Prayer Service at 7:30pm.  The Funeral Mass for Msgr. Trabold will be “celebrated” on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 10:30am.  Repast will follow immediately in Ryan Hall, St. Rose Church. Burial will take place on Sat, April 23rd at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington at 12:30 PM.
