I am saddened to hear about the passing away of Denis. He was my friend and colleague for more than two decades. Though I was neither his student nor his postdoc, he was very supportive of my academic career. He graciously hosted me on two sabbatical visits to the Math department besides writing several letters of reference.
He was a first-rate applied mathematician, a leading expert in dynamical systems a subject that he loved passionately.
He was a connoisseur of mathematics, he was a connoisseur of life and a man with a big heart. I will miss his presence in my life greatly. May his soul rest in peace.
My condolences to his family.

Denis Blackmore was an amazing colleague at NJIT. He was first and foremost, a gifted mathematician, publishing countless research articles. Next , he was an excellent teacher and research advisor. He guided many students through their PhDs, many of whom who have gone on to have successful academic careers of their own. Finally, he was a mentor to all faculty and a trusted advisor to everyone. His over 50 year's at NJIT have changed our Institution so much for the better and he leaves a legacy that perhaps will never be matched by anyone else. My colleagues and I in the Department of Mathematical Sciences will miss him tremendously. My condolences to the family.

I was privileged to work with Denis on the Faculty Senate. He was my Vice President; I was his Vice President…. and I am so blessed to have had that time with him. Lunches, laughs, meetings, and more meetings. His quick wit and broad knowledge of the most interesting subjects amazed me. He was my part-time wordsmith and full-time friend. I will miss him dearly. Rest in paradise.

I had the privilege of knowing Denis during my undergrad during quite a few classes I took with him as well as him being involved in the research group with Prof. Anthony Rosato. I always remember Denis as a great educator and teacher as he had a profound way expressing difficult concepts with passion while making them easy to understand. While, Denis was a great teacher, he was also a great researcher and he brought an additional dimension to the collaborative research during my time at NJIT with Prof. Rosato's research group and I learned alot growing as a researcher in the projects he was a part of. To say the least, while Denis was a top tier educator, mathematician and researcher, he was a beyond exceptional human being. I will always remember him as a kind, caring person filled with humility. I especially remember all the yearly luncheons I had with Prof. Rosato and Denis where we had a great time filled laughter and jokes, which I can fondly look back on. Even after I moved from Jersey, whenever I would come back to visit, I would look forward to our get-togethers to catch up and grab a drink and lunch/dinner. To say the least, his sudden passing is very surreal to me and I miss him very much, but I will always remember the many good memories of him and the impact he had on my life. I extend my condolences to his family in this trying time.

As both my undergraduate research mentor, my PhD advisor, and later a mentor in my professional career, Denis is the reason I became a mathematician. And I know he has had a big impact on countless others. In addition to mathematics, he was one of the kindest people I knew. He always included my wife in our research group get-togethers, and we were honored to have him at our wedding. He also adored our daughter, and loved seeing her during our Zoom calls. Our whole family will miss him dearly.
Moira and I would like to express our deepest condolences to Diane and John.

I have been privileged to know Denis for my entire career at NJIT, from my early days as a student and subsequently as a fellow faculty, as well as more recently as dean and provost. As he was to many on our campus, Denis was a friend and trusted advisor to me. He was a faculty leader at our university. I will miss seeing him and talking to him.
Please accept our sincere condolences. May he rest in peace.
