Helen was a wonderful and loving mother-in-law. Even though Lori and I are no longer together, I will always consider Helen to be my mom, too. She was so good to all of us and had so many amazing qualities - smart, curious, funny, supportive, empathic, a life-long learner. She genuinely cared, and it showed. By far, Helen shined as an Oma. She was deeply involved in our kids lives, deeply dedicated, and always there for Hannah and Alex no matter what. I loved Helen very much and will miss her dearly.

Helen and Ken were so kind to me when I was just out of Earlham and pretty much at loose ends, living with my parents for a few months and very glad to have the Spoon family across the street. Hugs to you, Kathy and Lori.

Dear Kathy and Lori, you may not remember me. I was your babysitter when you lived in Richmond. I wanted to let you know I admired your mother so much. She was kind, articulate, and supportive. She encouraged me to go to college. I was the first in my family to graduate from college. When I would return to Richmond, your mom always wanted to hear my college stories. I’m so sorry for your loss. Your mother will be missed. I currently live in the Reeveston neighborhood and walk pass you home almost daily. I have such fond memories of both of you, your home, and family. May your memories of Helen help you through this difficult time.

Lori, I'm so sorry for your loss. Helen was always so positive, a loving, smiling force and a great wit.... she will be so missed. Leaving this beautiful photo from a hike we all took together. I love how much fun you made for her, and how lovingly you and the kids cared for her. My favorite was the entry you all made to one of our Holiday parties with her walker lit up with decorations! I must find a pic of that! May her memories be a blessing to us all. Our deepest sympathies... Love, Kerry and Jeff

Seems to me that I met Helen on a church retreat in Cincinnati. Something about a bar of soap. I probably had my 3 children with me but had failed to bring soap. Helen had an extra bar to offer. So we became friends because of this gift of soap. Good memories.

THANK YOU MOM!
- for your unyielding love and the sense of security we've benefitted from.
- for your joyful smile and your lazer quick wit.
- for finding wonder in nature and animals and simple gifts that others might pass by.
- for your love of learning and being a life long student.
- for never knowing a stranger, including the mailman who sat in the kitchen for lunch with you when he was having a bad day.
- for your amazing spirit and optimism which we'll continue in your legacy.
- for your strong sense of purpose, living a meaningful life with full intention.
Thank you for the gifts you leave us with. We'll keep your spirit alive and carry your love with us always.
