Paul Hugh Reilly, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born and raised in Newark, NJ where he then raised his family. He then moved to Middletown where he resided for the past 27 years. Paul was an alumnus of Seton Hall Prep and University of Miami, FL where he received a full track scholarship. Paul proudly served in the United States Army and continued his career as a schoolteacher for the Newark Board of Education. He then developed a passion for public service and served as Deputy Mayor of Newark from 1962-1970. Paul then worked as a business administrator for DYFS until his retirement. He was a loyal fan of his alma maters and enjoyed his season tickets to NY Giants Football, Miami Hurricane Football and Seton Hall Pirate Basketball. He thoroughly enjoyed being a member of The Knights of Columbus and Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh. Paul, a proud parishioner of Sacred Heart Vailsburg and The Church of Saint Catherine Laboure in Middletown, had an unshakeable faith and devotion to God.

Paul was the most loving father and grandfather (Pop) and maintained an amazing relationship with his children and grandchildren, never missing a game, meet, concert or event. He was a beautiful example of what a father and grandfather should be and will remain in their hearts and minds forever.

He is predeceased by his wife and one love, Mary Ann Griffith Reilly, and brother, Bernard John Reilly. Paul is survived by his children MaryBeth Tomaro, her husband Robert, Paul H. Reilly Jr., his wife Lisa, Christine Reilly, and his 3 grandchildren, Julia Moschetti, her husband Brian, Lindsay Tomaro and Donovan Reilly. He also leaves behind his many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, along with his vast network of friends and former colleagues.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Development Office at Seton Hall Prep (for their scholarship fund for underprivileged students) in memory of Paul H Reilly, Sr. Class of 1952 (120 Northfield Avenue, West Orange, NJ 07052) would be appreciated.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation held at Reilly Bonner Funeral Home (801D Street, Belmar, NJ) on Thursday, June 9th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. Visitation will also be held at Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home (2122 Millburn Avenue Maplewood, NJ) on Friday, June 10th from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church (217 Prospect Street, South Orange, NJ) on Saturday, June 11th at 10:00 AM followed by an interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
