I first met Joe when he was appointed to the New Jersey Symphony by Henry Lewis. I was then Principal Double Bassist and he helped me negotiate a new personal service contract with the orchestra. We subsequently became friendly and worked together amicably for many years. He was a very decent fellow, always a generous and gracious colleague. I am very happy that after leaving the NJSO, he was so productive in developing the New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra. He did a lot of cultural and personal good there, as he did wherever he worked. I have often looked back and thought kindly of Joe through the many years that separated us as professional colleagues. It was a pleasure to know him and I send his family my most sincere condolences.
