My husband was transferred to Newark in the mid 1970s.
We lived in Clark on arrival from Maine. It was a bit of a culture shock. The nearest Catholic Church was St Agnes. I remember Fr. Miller as being quietly welcoming and kind.
I was sorry to read of his passing. May he enjoy his eternal rest and watch over us from his new location. He had to be a very special uncle. May your memories of him bring a smile.

He was a visiting instructor at Franciscan University. He taught during the Summer Semesters about 25-30 years ago. He was my favorite, most practical instructor. I'm sorry to hear of his loss.

I had Fr. Miller as a professor at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in the 1990's. He was a wonderful teacher. We kept in sporadic contact over the years. When I was ordained a deacon in 2012 he offered me great spiritual and theological advice. Rest in the peace of Christ, Father.

Father Fredrick Miller was a truly beloved son of the Holy Family who spoke of their love with the tenderness and wonderment of a child of God, while exuding a fervent passionate devotion. In his homilies and lectures, he shared his love for Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, as well as the saints and angels, in a way that was humanly relatable and eternally embraceable.
My wife and I worked for him in the early 1990's when he was the Director of the World Apostolate of Fatima and of the Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (the Blue Army Shrine) in Washington, NJ. We were privileged to be present during many of his intimate reflections which revealed his in-depth spirituality and were delivered with a light-hearted personal touch that made one feel akin to his deep beliefs.
When we were moving southward to Maryland, he wrote us a thoughtful introductory letter of recommendation that we presented to the Monsignor Phillips, the rector of the National Shrine of the Grotto of Lourdes in Emmitsburg. This set us on the path to working there.
After Father Miller’s tenure as Director of the Fatima Apostolate, he headed south to Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary, located just below the grotto, to teach as a professor of theology. We attended a Legion of Mary anniversary celebration which he presided over as an expert on Mariology.
Below is a photo that I took of my wife Barbara and our daughter Avellina with him on the grotto path.
May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace!

P.S. It was a little-known fact that Father Miller (whose surname was German) was actually half Italian and loved to pasta it up with that side of his family whenever possible! Our condolences to his relatives and all others who loved him dearly.

Fr. Miller taught several courses during our Diaconal formation. His Marion devotion assisted me with my own devotions to the Blessed Mother. He never hesitated to sit at mealtime and continue his teaching about our Catholic faith. One of my favorite stories: he once gave a retreat to the Missionaries of Charity, with Mother Teresa seated in the front row. Fr. Miller’s comment to her: ‘how can I give a Retreat to a Saint?’ He leaves quite a legacy.

As a Jewish Convert to the faith, I appreciated meeting Fr. Frederick. It was a moment I will never forget. I was at Fr. John Paul’s first mass he did after his ordination with my son. Fr. Frederick did a talk on the Eucharist and I was blown away. I knew at the reception of Fr. John Paul I must meet Fr. Frederick. I tried to hunt him down - there were so many guests. But I asked where can I find him, and then I found him in a private room having a sandwich and a bag of chips. I said Fr. Frederick I thank you for what you have done. The Priests who give me homilies from EWTN had training from you. I attend mass at the Shrine of Most Blessed Sacrament in Hanceville every day. I told him I am enjoying all the fruits of his labor. What a great man. He just looked at me and was shocked holding the potato chip in his hand. As if he were to say Lady, where did you come from? He saw my love for him and my sincerity and appreciation of his work for the Priesthood. He appreciated that I appreciated all the hard work he did for the Priesthood. A great man. I will never forget him. I will pray for him.

Father Miller taught at Notre Dame Institute in Arlington Virginia. In his classes on catechetics, Father made a profound impact on my confidence as a Catholic school teacher and DRE. His class on True Devotion to The Blessed Virgin by St. Louis de Montfort increased my love for the Blessed Mother. Rest In Peace Father Miller your devotion to your Church and to your students will always be remembered.

Father Miller changed our lives. He was a Father to countless priest sons. Our Lord and Our Lady used their son to form and guide us. So full of life, joy, wisdom and good humor. How I miss him. I am confident he was welcomed into eternity with rejoicing. I will pray for him and to him and am ever grateful for the blessing he was in my life. May God console all of us who miss him. What a wonderful family who gave us such a wonderful priest shepherd. Father we love you.

Oh my gosh I loved Fr. Miller. I had thought my middle name patroness was a sappy saccharine embarrassment until I took his class at Notre Dame Institute on St. Therese and we read Story of a Soul together! WOW!! Thanks Fr. Miller. Life-changing for sure. My next favorite memory is the backyard celebration at the Pollard residence following Fr. Marcus' ordination where many students engaged in cutthroat games of badminton or something ... just don't remember exactly but boy did we have fun! Thank you Fr. Miller, rest in peace. God of the spirits and of all flesh, who have trampled death and annihilated the devil and given life to your world, may you yourself, O Lord, grant to the soul of your deceased servant Fr. Frederick rest in a place of light, a verdant place, a place of freshness, from where suffering, pain and cries are far removed. Do You, O good and compassionate God forgive every fault committed by him in word, work or thought because there is no man who lives and does not sin. You alone are without sin and your justice is justice throughout the ages and your word is truth. Since you, O Christ our God, are the resurrection, the life and the repose of your deceased servant Fr. Frederick, we give you glory together with your un-begotten Father and your most holy, good and life-creating Spirit, now and always and forever and ever.

Fr. Fred was a dear friend of over 32 years. It’s hard to believe he is no longer with us on earth. The Lord only knows how many priests, women religious and lay faithful for whom he had a profound impact on their spiritual lives. He was a faithful servant of Our Lord and Our Lady. I will miss him tremendously. May God reward him! Bishop James D. Conley, Diocese of Lincoln

Father Miller was our dad at the Mount - genuine, wise, strong, funny, prayerful, humble - and he loved our mom with all he had. We shared his friends with us - Eugene Kevane Louis de Montfort Philip Neri john Vianney Joseph of Nazareth. He consecrated us sons of Mary to worship and serve our Savior. Father Miller is another Christ forever. Totus Tuus

My prayers are with every person whose life was touched by Father Fredrick Miller, for we know what the Church and we personally have lost in his passing into eternal life. And yet a life, which so enriched the Church for these fifty years of selfless service, leaves us with the tangible evidence of what it meas to be a priest and a servant of the Almighty. We can truly honor his life by living in the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, where he could be found even as he walked among us. I thank God that he was a part of my theological formation. Father Fredrick Miller, may you rest in peace.

Fr. Miller has been a great friend and mentor since he arrived at St. Agnes in Clark, NJ where we became lifelong friends. So many great memories! Father married my wife and me, with Fr. Whelan, and baptized all 4 of our children. I am indebted to this great and holy priest who I will miss very much. Job well done, Father.
