Lois Fabrizio Corcoran, 61, of Maplewood, N.J., passed away peacefully at home, on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14, 2023. She was surrounded by her family, loved ones, and her pets.
The family will be receiving friends at Preston Funeral Home,153 South Orange Ave, South Orange, on Friday, Feb 17th from 4:00 - 7:00 PM followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Lois was a proud lifelong resident of Maplewood. After defeating Hodgkin's Disease, in 1991, and while raising her three beautiful young girls, she went back to school to earn her RN degree from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing (Montclair, NJ); receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Seton Hall University and ultimately achieving her Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Thomas Edison University. Lois never wanted to stop learning, and was always planning her next steps; however her true passion was bedside nursing. Lois dedicated most of her career to nursing at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J. and was an esteemed instructor of Clinical Nursing at Felician University. She was extremely devoted to her patients and worked tirelessly as an advocate and clinician to assure their best possible outcomes and care.
Lois is known to have said that having her daughters at a young age, and living to be a grandma to her 9 grandchildren: was her “soul’s real purpose”. To have known Lois was to know a most genuine person whose personality and sense of humor filled a room with light and love.
While Lois had many pursuits, she cherished spending time with her grandchildren most of all: Salem, Claudia, Cecilia, Jaxon, Juliette, Edith, Meredith, Gwendolyn, and Zack. She especially loved family vacations to the beach, lake house, and her favorite vacation of all time to Disney.
Lois is survived by her devoted husband Stephen Corcoran who never left her side; beloved daughters Melissa (Orem) Pierre, Katie (Orem) McMullin, Amanda Mazzarella and wife Steph Mazzarella; her nine grandchildren; and her siblings Ralph Fabrizio, Mary Lynn Fabrizio Wallington, Carrie (Fabrizio) Steinbauer, and Lawrence Fabrizio, D.O. She was predeceased by her brother Michael Fabrizio. Lois also had many extended family members including cousins, nieces, and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
