Greetings: I'm very sorry for your loss. I went through a similar situation and I was very helped by the hope that I found in the Bible in John 5:28, which says, "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". You can go to jw.org for more information about this hope.

Our community has lost a caring, compassionate, and effective leader who gave so much of herself to make our world a better place. During my time with the Children's Summer Program and on the Adult School Board, I have so admired her leadership, commitment and energy to our good cause and to so many others in our area. I had the privilege of teaching her children at Columbia High School and know that her values and integrity live on in all of them. I wish this wonderful family strength and support and love as they share the great memories of her life and try to move ahead with their lives.

If ever there was a person who exemplified Dr.Martin Luther King’s concept of the “beloved community,” it was indeed Joan Lee. Joan was a bridge builder, a change agent and a force for good in the South Orange-Maplewood Community.
I met Joan in the late 1990s and we served together on the South Orange-Maplewood Education Foundation Board.(now called the Achieve Foundation). She and I served as co-chairs of the Grants Committee. She recruited me to the Adult School Board. Joan was the consummate team player- always offering her ideas, suggestions and wisdom when planning projects and activities.
What an inspiring legacy Joan has left us. Our community has been enriched by her life. She will be greatly missed and always remembered.

Joan was a community builder-- a positive change agent-- a community treasure. From the moment I met her at Jefferson School in the early 80's, I admired her energy, her passion, and her leadership. Over the next decades, I watched her rise to the leadership of many important community organizations and in each, she became a cheerleader and brought a strong commitment, a powerful conscience, and a loving and caring approach to positive change. She was a role model -- as a parent, as a wife, and as a transformer of our beloved Maplewood-South Orange community. Our community was enriched by her life and is diminished by her loss.

We've lost one of our best and brightest. Joan leaves our
community enormously better off because she passed through it...cared and gave so much back.
The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School was a special
beneficiary. We will greatly miss her creativity, dedication,
good ideas, and good humor.

To the family of Joan Lee
Please accept my sincere condolences. I have taken comfort knowing that God . . . will wipe all tears from their eyes, and there will be no more death, suffering, crying, or pain.”—Revelation 21:3, 4
The Bible, however, holds out a much different hope. As we have previously noted, the Scriptures indicate that it is possible to be reunited with your dead loved one in the near future, not in an unknown heaven but right here on earth under peaceful, righteous conditions. And at that time humans will have the prospect of enjoying perfect health, and they will never have to die again. ‘But surely that is wishful thinking!’ for some may say words of encouragement please go to JW.org
Sincerely,
Roberta

Joan was truly one who bloomed where she was planted; she used her talents and love in the service of her family and the community. She leaves a remarkable legacy. Joan and James were recognized by the South Orange Civic Organization with the Beloved Community Award, many years ago. She exemplified Dr. King's vision of making a difference and bringing people together.
