Obituary of Frances E. Harrington

Frances E. (O’Neil) Harrington, 92, of Maplewood, New Jersey and formerly of Little Compton, Rhode Island, passed away on April 15, 2023.

Frances was born in Attleboro, MA and has lived in Maplewood since 1961. She graduated from Seton Hall University.

Frances was a kind, generous, and lovely lady. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She had a self-sacrificing spirit and loved nothing more than seeing her loved ones happy. She grew up in the country as the oldest of seven children, then married and worked hard to raise six of her own, suffering the loss of two sons too soon. Frances was happiest with her family around her and loved cooking shows and British mysteries on PBS. She encouraged her family to work hard and treat others with respect and kindness. Her big smile and kind heart will be missed by all who knew her.

Frances is survived by her children, Patrick Harrington (Barbara), Frances Robson (James), Stephen Harrington (Margaret), and Keyne Taylor (Jerry) and her sisters Margaret Mary O’Neil and Beatrice Lillian McGovern. She was the proud grandmother of Andrew, Eamonn, Rachael (Gilberto), Patrick Jr., Emily, Melissa (Edward), Michael, Ian (Natalie), Meghan, Hope, Nora, Liam, James Jr., and Cole and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 67 years John J. Harrington, Jr., her two sons John III (Joan) and James, and her siblings James, Raymond, Michael and Doris. She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Avenue, Little Compton, Rhode Island on Friday April 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from Fern Acres Funeral Home on Saturday April 22, at 8:45 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Catherine Of Siena Church, 74 Simmons Road, Little Compton, R.I. at 10 a.m.  Immediately following Mass Interment to follow at Our Lady Of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton, R.I.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
