Memories of Aunt Mary are many. Early years at family gatherings in Cranford after a long ride there from Wayne. All the cousins playing together as our parents and grandma and grandpa Whalen socialized. Grammar school thru high school with the Sullivan and Donnelly families living in Packanack Lake 7 boys plus Mary Carol as the lone female providing some sanity for the mom’s. Kind, interested in all of us and a terrific sister as she and Uncle Jim plus Gerry and Theresa modeled the family values we’ve grown to understand today. We owe them our gratitude and thank them for their inspiration. Family first, family always. Thank you Aunt Mary, we miss you.

Mary Sulivan: We met through our daughters, Mary Carol and Anne Marie when they were in 2nd grade at Holy Spirit School in Asbury Park. Our daughters became and still are best friends, sharing all the fun of childhood, through adulthood - marriage and children. Mary and I would help out at Holy Spirit’s Christmas Bazaar, school plays and lunch duty. We had so much fun. Mary was an avid reader and listened to “Books on Tape” daily, Mary, Jim, Greg and I enjoyed Jim and Mary’s company with our local group of friends sharing New Years Eve gatherings, playing trivial pursuit on the beach and playing cards. Shanghi being our card game of choice. More recently Mary joined the lunch gatherings of the “Y” Gals - a group of women who worked at the YMCA Nursery School in Asbury Park. More fun times. When she moved up north Jersey with John and Kelly, we didn’t see much of each other; age got in the way. We did speak on the phone about once a month. She was always up for a phone call and a few laughs. Over 50 years of friendship. She will be missed.
