Obituary of Lillian M. Smit

Lillian Smit (10/23/1929-7/24/2023)

Lillian Smit (ne Ryan) was born in Newark, NJ.  She was the daughter of Lillian Young and Aloysius Joseph Ryan.  She had two brothers.  Lillian completed high school and worked as a secretary until she retired.  She was married to Jerald Smit for 40 years until he passed away.  They had one daughter.  Lillian was a devout Roman Catholic and was very active in the Our Lady of Sorrows Church in South Orange, NJ.  Lillian loved cooking and baking for her family, sewing, crocheting, and painting.  Lillian was a long-time resident of Winchester Gardens in Maplewood, NJ where she moved following the death of her husband.  At WG she enjoyed watching old black and white movies and was great bingo player playing with 4 or 5 cards and often winning. She was well loved by both fellow residents and staff.
