Will miss John dearly. We shared a lot of memories over the years of coaching our daughters together for St Joseph’s. He was as kind hearted as they come. it’s not all that often that you are allowed to call a man sweet, but that’s exactly what he was to me. Always loving with Rose Mary, and proud of his children. and always fun to hear him talking to the referees in his own way. Godspeed John you will be missed and you were the greatest pleasure to coach with. I will miss you.

I am truly saddened to hear of John’s passing. He was someone that I had the pleasure of coaching CYO basketball for a number of years since Leah and my daughter Katie were part of the St.Joseph’s program. John could light up a room with his wide and infectious smile. He was also one of the most genuine individuals that I ever met, on and off the court- what you see is what you got. As a coach, John was incredibly caring and sensitive- always trying to bring out the best in his players. He will be sorely missed. Thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Connell family.

We are so sorry to hear this news. John was such a positive influence for all of us. I loved playing and coaching with him. He shared his passion and love for basketball with all of our kids. But, his kind and patient demeanor left an even larger impression on all of us. John's smile would light up a locker room. Rosemary, Leah and Jay, we will keep you all in our thoughts and prayers. I’m very sorry to hear of John’s passing and am sending lots of love to Rosemary, Leah, Jay and his entire family. John was ‘all in’ on life and so grateful for all of his positivity and energy that he shared with our kids on the basketball court. Always had a kind and encouraging word for anyone that had the pleasure of knowing him and his smile came straight from his soul.

My deepest condolences to the Connell family in this time of grief. I had the pleasure of working with John for the past 7+ years and I can honestly say that he was an extremely polite, kind and honest human being. I enjoyed chatting with him about cars, basketball and raising kids. I will sorely miss his big heart and kind soul. May GOD rest his soul.

When our daughter Evelyn started CYO basketball with John she MIGHT have come up to his knees. Over the years she learned countless lessons from John on sportsmanship, teamwork, generosity, kindness, and humility; alway by example. Evelyn and a lot of wonderful kids are even better for having played for him. Rosemary, Leah and Jay - you are in our thoughts and prayers.

John, or “Coach Connell” as I first came to know him, was such a good man. He coached both of our children in CYO basketball and we couldn’t have asked for a nicer, more caring and loving coach, teacher and mentor for our children. Always so patient, kind and generous. He is already sorely missed. Rosemary, Leah and Jay: you are in our prayers. May God bless you.

Coach Connell was a man of extreme patience and set such good examples for our children. One of my favorite memories is the look on our child’s face when they made an unexpected basket in a game and were embraced and congratulated by their teammates. The look on their face is something I will never forget - pure joy. Thank you John for teaching our kids good life lessons and for giving them your joy of the game.
