Obituary of Carol Gilligan

Carol  Morrow  Gilligan, 80 of Maplewood passed away at her home in Maplewood on September 30, 2023 surrounded by her loving family after a 14 year battle with leukemia.

Carol was raised in Orange and has lived in Maplewood for over 50 years. She entered her worklife as an art teacher before a long and successful career as a realtor, ending as the Manager of the Weichert Maplewood office. Throughout her tenure in Maplewood, Carol was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. Perhaps her greatest pride and joy was her role as a grandmother to 5 loving grandchildren.

Spending time with family and friends was of utmost importance to her. Her love for both Cape May and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico were unmatched and she shared both of these special places with the closest of friends. Carol also had a passion for wildlife and spent time in Africa with her husband several times.

Surviving are her loving Husband of 57 years Michael  Gilligan Sr.; children Heather (Byrne) Guarnotta, Holly Gilligan and Michael (Lizzie) Gilligan Jr., and her beloved grandchildren Silvia, Mack, Nicco, Mickey and Willie and longtime golden retriever Bear.

The family is receiving friends at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Wed, Oct 4th from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A memorial service will be held St. George's Episcopal Church, 550 Ridgewood Rd, Maplewood on Thursday, October 5th at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to, the Puerto Vallarta botancial garden which is a beautiful place that Carol and Michael spend many a happy time, would be appreciated.
