Joan Caputo Staunton, 85 of Maplewood died on Oct 19, 2017 at Overlook Medical Center with family at her side. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Teresa of Avlia Church, 306 Morris Ave, Summit on Fri, Oct 27th at 10:45 AM. Interment will be at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit. The family will be receiving friends at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Thursday, Oct 26th from 5-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joan’s memory to American Association of University Women (www.aauw.org). For more information or to send condolences please visit jacobhollefuneralhome.com. Joan was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brookyn, spending summers in Lake Hopatcong, NJ. She married John Donald Staunton in 1960. She and Don lived and raised their family in Summit, NJ from 1962-2001 and later in Basking Ridge, NJ and Vero Beach, FL. Joan moved to Maplewood in 2013. She graduated from Fontbonne Hall Academy, Notre Dame College (Staten Island) and attended Hunter College graduate school. Joan taught the hearing impaired in New York City and Millburn, NJ. She was a successful realtor in Summit for 20 years. She served as president of Summit College Club (AAUW), Founding President of Overlook Hospital Auxiliary Twig #1 and sang with the "Interludes" and St. Teresa of Avila choir where she was an active parishioner for many years. She was also a member of the Summit Fortnightly Club. Joan and Don were members of the Copper Springs Club in Meyersville, the Beacon Hill Club in Summit and the Vero Beach Yacht Club. Joan was predeceased by her husband J. Donald Staunton. She is survived by her children: John V. Staunton (Patty), Anne Staunton Adams, Joan Marie Staunton (Edgardo Diaz), Catherine Misciagna (Matthew), and Mary Staunton Conway (Thomas), her grandchildren Michael Staunton, Aidan and Eileen Conway, Dominic, Delia, Angela and Timothy Misciagna.
