Obituary of Raymond Calo Jr.

Raymond Calo, Jr., age 70, of Denver, Colorado passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 surrounded by family in Maplewood, New Jersey after his brief battle with Cancer.

A burial will be held at Hillside Cemetery, 1401 Woodland Avenue in Scotch Plains, New Jersey on Friday, December 22 at 11:15 AM. Attendees should dress how they feel most comfortable as this is what Ray would want.

Mr. Calo was born to Ramon Calo and Benigna Calo (née Alvarez), a military family, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina on September 4, 1953. The family settled in El Paso, Texas, where Ray later started his own family. He eventually made his way to Denver, Colorado where he would spend the next 30 years.

Ray is survived by his son Chris Calo and partner Hillary Axon, his grandson Nathaniel Calo, his three sisters Carmen Stripling, Linda Anderson, and Jane Collins, his aunt Sylvia Carraro, and his uncle Omar Santos.

Ray was a devoted and loving father to his son and a devout Christian. He was a life-long body builder and loved playing sports in his youth and into adulthood. In his retirement, Ray spent his time photographing the beauty in nature and amassed an extensive catalog of serene landscape and majestic wildlife images. He worked for over 30 years in the telecommunications industry as a phone systems technician.
