I never met Kiwa but knowing what Chitra is like as a mother and a woman and a wife and a friend, I know what kind of person Kiwa must have been. Her loss is tremendous. She lives on in her family, and in multitudes of vivid memories.

I remember visiting Chitra one day in New Jersey and feeling so at home and welcomed by her dear mom Kiwa. She was an absolutely beautiful, kind soul who wrapped us (Alejandra and me) in her love because we were Chitra's friends. She quickly dressed us both into beautiful saris and we took many pictures. I am sending all my love to Chitra and the rest of her family during this hard time. Kiwa is now resting and watching over them. May she rest in peace.

I met Kiwa when I was in college because I was fortunate to have Chitra as a friend and eventually as a roommate. When I was able to visit the family at their home, she set a tone of absolute acceptance, warmth, and kindness. I remember eating delicious food that she had made. I remember at one visit, when I was there with my husband Ben (though I don't remember if we were married at that point or not), she brought out clothes from Japan and India and encouraged us to try them on, which we did. It was very fun. Somehow she always exuded liveliness and humor while working so hard to care for all her family. I am honored to have known Kiwa.
