EDDIE & SABARAH I met Eddie’s wife Sabarah so long ago, And at the time I really didn’t know, What a power couple they were, Their accomplishments so numerous, they became a blazing blur, He was a brilliant scientist and she an outspoken activist, Their conversations sparkled-they both were catalysts, They had an elegance I’d never encountered before, And I hoped they’d come to dinner and grace my front door, Eddie was a striking man with a welcoming embrace, And Sabarah’s unrivaled wit left a smile on everyone’s face, They were dynamic intellectuals, And their brilliance perpetual, Eddie outlived Sabarah by twenty-three years, How did he cope with a loss like that and never show fear, Now they’re back together, waiting for all of us, Gracing God’s table for dinners with debates, wit, and the occasional fuss. —Love, Athena April 2024

My deepest condolences to the Sabin family! In the world of track and field, most especially New Jersey track and field, I never met a nicer and more humble than Ed Sabin! Being from Staten Island, I began competing in meets held in New Jersey in 1976. It was at these meets is where I first first met Ed! I was impressed, then overwhelmed with how sincere and caring Ed was about the athletes at the meet, most especially myself! I left the sport of Track and Field in 1984, however, prior to 1984, I would compete in New Jersey and I would continue to see Ed on a consistent basis throughout the years! Always knowledgeable, always nice and always friendly! I returned to the sport of Track and Field in 1994 and immediately recognized Ed, who was equally as friendly as was in years past! In New York City, I began officiating track meets in the 1970's, without being a certified official. In 1998, Ed invited me to become a "USATF Certified" official and Ed was instrumental in getting many other officials involved in the sport! I owe Ed quite a bit of gratitude and thanks for his role in the leadership of the USATF New Jersey officials! It is a sad day for the world of track and field! All I can say is that Ed is now at peace with his wife! God Bless Ed and God Bless the Sabin family! Dr. Rob Doran
