Obituary of Timothy J. Ryan

Timothy J. Ryan, age 62, of Toms River died Saturday, May 11, 2024. Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Wednesday, May 15th from 4:00 - 8:00PM. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Patrick Parish, 85 Washington Ave, Chatham, on Thursday, May 16th at 10:00 AM. Interment is private.

Tim started his life on Edgar Street in Summit, NJ before moving to Chatham Township where he grew up.   Tim, along with his siblings wend to St. Patrick’s School in Chatham, then graduated from Chatham Township High School, class of 1979.  He went to County College of Morris and received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Contracting from Keane College.  He met the love his life, after initially meeting her in grammar school, Sharon Mulholland Ryan.  They were married on October 31, 1987 in St. Patrick’s church.  They lived in Morristown before moving to their dream home in Long Valley, NJ.  Their time together was limited, but they cherished each and every moment together.  After Sharon’s passing, Tim lived in Morristown and Stirling, before residing in Toms River.

During his college years, Tim worked for Norkin Plumbing.  He went on to work at Brand Insulation, Condor, Weathervane and finally ACM Corporation as Vice President responsible for all facets of project execution.

Tim loved all things nature.  He could tell you names and facts on every animal and fish that exists.  Growing up next to the woods and the Great Swamp was where he embraced his love for nature.  The Jersey shore was where he developed his love for fishing.  Tim, Ed Sr., Ed Jr., Chris and Joe “apparently” had the best fishing season of their lives last year. In Tim’s words “We never caught this many fish for as long as I can remember”

Tim was extremely generous uncle to each of his nieces and nephews with his love and attention.  From Teletubbies to cars promised to catching critters to Heinz lovers to large black water snakes to Love After Lockup, Timmy was the best!

He was an incredible brother who truly loved each of his siblings.  He put on a strong facade at times but was a kind, gentle, loving soul at heart.  He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts

He was predeceased by his wife Sharon Mulholland, parents Patrick J. and Catherine (Rooney) Ryan Sr. and brother Patrick J. Ryan Jr. and his wife Helen.

Tim is survived by his siblings Edward Ryan (Diane) and Margaret R. Hostutler (Scott)  nieces and nephews Brielle, Christopher, Eddie, Julie, Matthew (Vicky), Brianne, Ryan (Jackie), Jenna, Erin, Alex and Christian, Great nephew James and by many extended family and friends

In lieu of flowers, donations to Friends of Great Swamp, (friendsofgreatswamp.org) would be appreciated.
