Ruby Pearl Sparks was born February 8th 1936 to George and Susan Sparks in Devon, Manchester on the beautiful island of Jamaica.

She had nine siblings: Richard, George, Bertie, Eagan, Berris, Roy, Dervent, Gladys (who preceded her in death) and her brother Vivian.

From Jamaica, Ruby migrated to England in 1955 where she met and married Howard Barrett and had three children: Beverley, Pauline (preceded her in death) and Kenton. She worked full-time in a chemical factory and part-time as a hairstylist out of her home.

Ruby migrated to the United States in the early 70s, where she worked as a home attendant until retirement.  She lived in Harlem, New York City, until her death on Thursday, July 11, 2024.

As a youngster, she found joy in gardening with her mother and developed a great love for flowers.  She also had a keen interest in dressmaking and studied with a seamstress before leaving for England.

Ruby loved to have a good time and enjoyed dressing up and attending parties.   In retirement she took pleasure in traveling and was a frequent guest on many cruise ships. Well into her elder years, she maintained a fair level of independence, taking the bus and walking to her local doctor’s appointments.

She leaves behind her daughter and son, her brother Vivian, grandchildren: David, Paul and Kenya Graham, nephew: Bernard, nieces: Vivienne, Sheila, Hillary and numerous other nieces and nephews.
