Diane was my oldest sister - same father, different mothers. In fact, when Diane married Denis my mother was three months into her pregnancy with me. We grew up in different households, but in the end that didn’t matter. I am so very grateful that in my adult years I met her all over again through my own matured vision, seeing her in a way that was uniquely mine. She made me laugh, she made me think. She was blunt and unapologetic, but never rude or crass. She was loquacious and at the same time an excellent listener. She was quietly thoughtful and sentimental. She did not suffer fools. In her I had a mentor, an ally, an inspiration, a maternal presence and a best friend. We shared part of our history which bonded us. We shared a genetic resilience that defined us. I hold on to the hope that she has been reunited with her one and only love, her husband Denis. When she lost him just over two years ago, I know it created a void for her that was impossible to fill. Sleep well, dear Diane. I love you. And I will miss you so very, very much.
