Obituary of Roberta A. Murphy

      Roberta Murphy, Maplewood resident for 40 years, 86.

Roberta Murphy (nee Forrest) of Maplewood, N.J., 86, died on August 27, 2024, at Overlook Medical Center. She was the daughter of Mary (Sedlar) and Robert Forrest.

Roberta was born in Newark and grew up in Newark & West Orange, N.J., and raised her family in Newark and Maplewood. She was the beloved wife of the late John F. Murphy, Jr. Roberta is survived by a sister, Diane Liccese of Illinois, daughter Diane Murphy and sons Dennis & his wife Cynthia, Robert & his wife Lisa and Richard Murphy & companion Valerie Ivkovich as well as grandchildren Joseph Murphy, Amelia Murphy & husband Jesus Zeno. She has many cousins, friends, nieces and nephews spread around the country.

Roberta was employed as a secretary with the West Orange Board of Education and for many years as an Insurance Broker with Marine Agency in Maplewood. She had a life-long love of music, especially Broadway Musicals. She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish in Maplewood, singing in the choir and as a Cantor for many years. Each year she looked forward to the opening of the community pool and family vacations in S. Bethany, DE to spend time with her grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Church, 767 Prospect St., Maplewood, on Saturday, August 31st at 10 a.m. Interment is in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, N.J. Visitation will be held at the Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home, 2122 Millburn Ave., Maplewood, on Friday, Aug. 30th from 3 to 7 p.m.
