My name is Laurence Lande. I discovered this June of 2025 that dear sweet Sandra was gone.
She had me over to dinner 20 years ago, exactly, June 2005. She made a wonderful Italian dinner.
She was with me in the English department at Canarsie High. We liked the same people. We disliked the same folks in that school. We joined forces & together with my gathering 5 others, we stopped a history teacher from bullying her & upsetting me, both knowing how evil he & his wife were. She was in our department.
But we enjoyed other things, as in foods & literature to film discussions. I taught film. I treated her to two films in Sheepshead Bay & she cooked dinner. It was fun & we were fine platonic friends.
I took a leave of my own wish, after teaching film, for years. When I returned I had to stop that miserable couple from annoying her again. I got him banned from going near her in the English department.
Then the school was forcibly downsized, & she left Canarsie. For a time, we kept in touch by phone. Then she became ill, & then very ill.
I will miss you, wonderful, kind, elegant lady. I would have come to your February tribute had I known God took you.
Love & dear thoughts to comfort your soul. You may have been too Leftist for some, but as a person, colleague & friend, you were alright with me.
