I never knew Susan, but I have spent the last 4 years teaching at Maple Street School and sending my son there. I am eternally grateful to her for founding such a special place where decades later my family has been able to grow our minds and spirits and be a part of loving community.

My family was the one of the Cambodian refugees she helped in Brooklyn. She was the greatest advocate for us and the other families. Words cannot express how much we are grateful for her kindness and compassion. Coming from the ashes of what was Cambodia when we arrived in New York in 1981, Susan helped us navigate the city, the culture and the broken sponsorship program. Susan, not only, helped our family, but she loved our family. She opened her heart and her home to us; visiting Spring Glen a few times. She admired my mom, who had passed in 2021, but, Susan is also quite admirable! My family: Victor Vuthy Vang, Veary Heng (Vang), Phanny Yok, Kunthea Ros, Sophin Cheap, Vuth Ros and the late Mary Chorn Yok and Vearek Vang. I have attached the New York Times article about my family's plight in Brooklyn and how Susan and others helped us. We send our condolences.

Susan was my mom, Gail Miller's long-time friend. In reading about her I now better understand that their friendship was likely rooted in the many commonalities they shared: both social workers, both worked at CPE, both established long-standing community day-care programs, both activists, both loving mothers to their own and many others. On behalf of my mom, also deceased, I'm sending much love and deepest condolences to the family and all those who knew and loved her. May we take comfort in the fullness of the lives they lived and endeavor to follow their example.
