Grace Gilhooly McCormick Mayer, Longtime Union Resident and Dedicated Nurse
Grace Mayer, 85, of Union, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born in Orange, NJ, raised in South Orange, Grace lived in Springfield before settling in Union.
Grace graduated from Oak Knoll School of the Holy Child, St. Peter’s School of Nursing, and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Kean University. She pursued a fulfilling career as a Registered Nurse. Prior to her retirement, Grace was a Case Manager at Cigna Health after serving with compassion and dedication at Overlook Hospital in Summit for over 34 years, leaving a lasting impact on her patients and colleagues alike.
Grace is survived by her beloved husband, John P. Mayer, devoted daughter, Kathleen (McCormick) and Timothy Boreale of Mountainside, NJ, her cherished sister, Regina (Gilhooly) Tyson of Morristown, NJ, brother-in-law Robert Mayer (Carol) of California, loving nieces and nephews and lifelong friends. Grace’s pride and joy were her three grandchildren: Bridget, Devon, and James, who will carry on her legacy of love and kindness. Grace was predeceased by her brother Edward Gilhooly (Adele) and her sisters Marguerite Mindnich (Alfred), Eileen Light (Ralph), Rosemary Clark (Bernard), Maureen Courtney (Jack), sister-in-law Annmarie McCormick Criss (Art), and her first husband James B. McCormick.
Grace will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family, her selfless service to others, and her warm and gentle spirit.
Visitation will be held at The Jacob A. Holle Funeral Home 2122 Millburn Ave, Maplewood on Friday, November 29th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM.
A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 am on Saturday, November 30th at Holy Spirit Church, 984 Suburban Road, Union, NJ. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, in East Hanover.
