Obituary of Abigail S. Finch

Please share a memory of Abigail S. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Abigail Sarah Jane Finch, 29, of South Orange, NJ passed away on January 3, 2018 at the NYU Cancer Center in New York City after a four year heroic battle with melanoma. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Remembrance Service at Morrow Memorial Church, 600 Ridgewood Road, Maplewood, NJ, on January 28th at 2PM. Light refreshments will be available for early arrivers, and a reception will follow the service. Abbey was born at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ on February 1, 1988. She grew up in Maplewood and then South Orange, attending Marshall, Jefferson and South Orange Middle Schools, and high school at the Morristown-Beard School. She received her BA in English from Drew University in 2011 and her MA in Journalism from Columbia University in 2017. Before entering journalism as a full-time career, Abbey had worked for numerous advertising agencies throughout New Jersey, as well as successfully establishing her own online content business, ScribeSpace in 2014. Abbey also frequently published articles in other media outlets including magazines, newspapers and online publications, and since graduating from the Columbia Journalism School she had been working exclusively as a journalist for the North Jersey Media Group. In her short years with us, Abbey lived an incredibly full life. Abbey entered into recovery from addiction at the young age of 19, and after her own rapid successful recovery, dedicated much of her time serving as a mentor and a beacon of hope for many young women. Abbey lived life to the fullest, and her joie de vivre touched all whom she met. Abbey is survived by her daughter Chole Bergrin; her parents Matt and Kathy Finch; sister Emily Finch; many aunts, uncles and cousins; her former husband Matthew Bergrin and numerous other loyal and deeply caring friends. Memorial donations can be made to one of the following nonprofit organizations in Abbey’s name: Melanoma Research Alliance, www.curemelanoma.org; or Eva’s Village, www.evasvillage.org.
