George F. McKenzie, 93, of Hightstown, N.J., formerly of Maplewood, passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. A wake will be held on Sunday, July 29, from 2-6 PM at the Preston Funeral Home, 153 W. South Orange Ave, South Orange, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 30, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St., South Orange, N.J. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover. George was born in Newark and attended Seton Hall Prep before serving in the Army Air Force during World War II. After the war, he attended Seton Hall University where he earned his B.S. in Business Management. Subsequently, he earned his Master’s degree in Business from Michigan State University. He enjoyed a 50 year career at Acme Markets where he retired as a Director of Marketing. George was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather as well as an avid Mets fan. He was the son of the late George McKenzie, Sr. and Margaret (Tansey) McKenzie and brother of the late Peggy Stoney and late Jack McKenzie. George is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lenore (Flynn) McKenzie, his son, George (Skip) and wife, Debbie of Annapolis, M.D., his daughter Susan Kendrat and husband, Mark, of Long Valley, N.J. and his son, John and his wife, Montse of Cranbury, N.J. He was the beloved grandfather of Catherine, Heather and Patrick McKenzie, Christopher and Jack Kendrat and Kieran, Aidan and Dylan McKenzie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Seton Hall Prep, 120 Northfield Ave. West Orange, NJ 07052.
