Smith --- Margaret Mary McCarron Smith passed away peacefully on October 4, 2005 surrounded by her family. Peggy was born on March 29, 1931 to Marcus and Marie (McCool) McCarron in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from Notre Dame High School and in 1952 was awarded her Nursing Degree from the Fitzgerald-Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia, PA. In May 1956 Peggy married Fred C. Smith, Jr. in Maplewood, NJ where her family had relocated. Peggy was employed for 23 years at the Winchester Gardens, Nursing Home in Maplewood. Peggy’s life was defined by her devotion to her husband, Children, grandchildren and parents. Words cannot express the love felt for her by her children and grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband the late Fred C. Smith Jr. Devoted mother of Michael J. and his wife Marie of White Plains, NY, Paul G. and his wife Sally of Pt. Pleasant, Peter M. and his wife Dawn of Roseland, Christopher D. and his wife Lisa of West Caldwell, Stephen F. and his wife Carolyn of Overview, FL, Monica C. and her partner Amy of Chester, Timothy J. and his wife Kristen of West Orange. Loving grandmother of Gabrielle, Samantha, Alexis, Jordan, Brendan, Griffin, Nolan, Kelly, Erin, Grace, Tara and Molly. Peg was “one-in-a-million”: a loyal friend, honest, caring and witty and devoted to her many beloved animals. Peggy exemplified the essence of being a devout Roman Catholic and her abiding trust in her faith proves an example for us all. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady Of Sorrows Church, 217 Prospect St, South Orange on Fri, Oct 7th at 9:30 AM. Interment Gate Of Heaven Cemetery, E. Hanover. Visitation will be held at Preston Funeral Home 153 South Orange Ave, South Orange on Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 PM . In lieu of flowers donations to Convent of Divine Love, 2212 Green St, Philadelphia, PA 19130 would be appreciated.
