Samuel Cassie, 68, of Maplewood, N.J., died on Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, at his residence.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at Preston Funeral Home, 153 South Orange Ave., South Orange, N.J., on Friday, Dec. 16, at 8:30 p.m. Interment is private. Born in Orange, N.J., Mr. Cassie was formerly of South Orange and had resided in Maplewood for 15 years. He was employed as foreman of the Shade Tree Division for Essex County Parks Department, where he worked for over 30 years before retiring. Mr. Cassie served in the U.S. Army as a private first class and was a member of Florham Park Pistol and Rifle Club, Wakpa Sportsmen's Club, and Italian Savoy Club of South Orange.
He was the devoted brother of Peter J. Cassie; Anthony Cassie and his wife, Edith, and Trudy Lenhoff and her husband, Irv; dear uncle of Peter H. and his wife, Cheryl, Paul L. Cassie, Kimberly Sokirynski and her husband, Alex, and the loving longtime companion of Susan Humphrey.
