My heart breaks at the loss of a friend and "extended" family member. For more than 13 years, I have been an honorary member of the Heckel family. It is a great loss that I, and my sister Aishah sadly share. You are each in our hearts and prayers.
Remembering Barbara won't be difficult...she made it easy with her open heart and giving nature. It will certainly be a colder place without her warm and generous personality. She gave kindly and loved unconditionally. That is who I will forever remember. With the greatest of pride, I called her my friend, and will do so always.

Almost three and a half years ago I met you, and, I was taken in by your positively bubbly personality. I'm so grateful I was priveledged enough to meet you. Always kind and sweet and perfect. The world is a little dimmer without you. Love you always, Laura

What do you say at a time like this? "I'm sorry" seems so inadequate. Here was a truly wonderful person whose life was cut short. Barbara was a loving, caring & giving person to all who sought her out or were lucky enough to find her. We were priviledged to enjoy her company the week before. Her humanity to humans and animals will be missed. Many have danced the dance of life but not with her gentle grace. We know the flame she lit will go on in our hearts as she leaves so many memories. As Barbara wrote in a sympathy card she sent us "Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones shines down to let us know they are with us". May the "openings" you see ease your pain and sorrow. Our prayers and sympathies are with you - our "family" and friends.

Some people come into our lives and quickly go.
Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts.
And we are never, ever the same.
Thank you for your footprints Barb.

It has taken a month before I could put my feelings into words. Twelve years ago, Barb picked me out of thousands on AOL with the same day of birth as hers. She was searching for a birthday twin. Why she picked me, I'm not sure. Both of our birthdays are Feb. 21st. I'm several years older, but that didn't matter. We clicked; had many things in common; and evidently fulfilled each others needs. And the friendship continued, although we never met face to face, because she was such a wonderfully, special person. I love you, BJ and I miss you terribly. My sympathy to all of those who also love and miss her. Heaven has been blessed with her presence.
